THE CONSORZIO
CERAMICHE ARTISTICHE DEL VENETO
Inside the ceramics sector of the Veneto
area, The Consortium of the producers
of artistic ceramics, has established
itself in 1982 it has many members including
all the most important firms.
It is a no-profit organism which operates
for the development of the sector and
for the promotion and marketing of the
Veneto in ceramic products in Italy and
abroad.
Thanks to the
publicity campaing, to the magazine Ceramica
Veneta and to the partecipation in the
main trade fairs of the sector, the Consortium
and its logo have already established
in Italy and has crossed the national
borders in search of recognition and appreciation
abroad.
The production
of ceramics in the area of Nove and Bassano
boasts a long tradition, the origins of
which go back a long way in time. The
presence of abundant clay deposits on
the southern side of the ills of San Giorgio
in Angarano was undoubtely the determing
factor which favoured the settlement of
patters right from prehistoric time. There
are a lot of archeogical remains indicating
the development of this activity in the
course of the centuries, from Roman age
up until the Renaissance. But it was in
the second half of the 17th century that
ceramic skill of the area was officially
recognised. In fact, as a consequence
of measures designed to discourage imports
in order to favour the development of
the local products, in 1669 the senate
of the Venetian Republic granted the Mainardi
and Antonibon firms the privilege of producing
ceramics both for the internal market
and for export. So the production of household
and ornamental ceramics has developed
over the centuries in different typologies:
simple but rich of of popular authenticy
household ceramics or more elegant products.
Parallel to the reproduction of antiques
models, modern trends in ornaments, decorative
accessories and in table-top have developed. Now,
in the area there are 380 different firms
producing ceramics and about 2.400 employees.
